Approved Publisher FAQ
What if I don't see my publisher on the approved list?
If the audio publisher isn't listed please have the publisher fill out an approval form.

**Please Note**
This is only for audio publishers, not the print publisher. If you are unsure about whether or not your print publisher also produced the audio title you can check your Audible listing to see who has the production copyright. (This is be below the book summary will be listed with the print copyright first, followed by the audio copyright: e.g. ©2020 John Grisham (P)2020 Random House Audio.)

The narrator or author used a distributor to publish this title. Why don't I see them listed?
Distributors, such as ACX, Author's Republic, Findaway, Spoken Realms, or similar, are not publishing companies. If the title was self-published using a distributor it is considered "self-published" and you will choose "N/A" from the dropdown. (see below for information on the difference between a distributor and a publisher)

I'm the narrator/author. Can I get my company approved as a publisher?
Maybe. If you offer publishing services for other authors/narrators in addition to your own work you might qualify as a publisher. (see next question for details)

What is the difference between a publisher and a distributor? / What qualifies a company to be a publisher?
Distributors, such as ACX, Author's Republic, Findaway, Spoken Realms, or similar, get your audiobook out to various plaforms (Audible, Chirp, Overdrive, etc...) for sale. They may offer some help with casting, but rarely employ a casting director or maintain a roster of narrators, usually sending all auditions to the author to make the decision rather than narrowing down their choices. They also rely on the narrator (or occassionally the author) to proof and edit the audiobook or only offer those services for an extra fee. A distributor will not retain the rights to the audio that is produced.
A publisher will almost always have a roster of narrators that were chosen by casting directors and usually offer in-house audio proofing and/or editing. Publishers also usually, though not always, do not charge for these services because they expect to earn royalties from the sale of the book either by spliting the royalities with the author or paying for the audio rights upfront and retaining all royalties.

What if I don't see the name of my publisher in the dropdown list on the submission form?

First, check the title's listing on Audible to verify who is listed as the audiobook publisher. (This is be below the book summary will be listed with the print copyright first, followed by the audio copyright: e.g. ©2020 John Grisham (P)2020 Random House Audio.)
If the author or narrator is listed as the audio publisher on Audible we consider the title to be self-published and you will enter "N/A" for the publisher.

What if my publisher is on the approved list, but not in the dropdown menu?
If the audio publisher is on the approved list, but not in the dropdown list please choose "Other" and then enter the publisher's name in the next question.
We are updating the list throughout this submission cycle and will not be able to also update the form.

**Please only fill out the "Other" section if you have found that publisher on our approved list!**
